There was no traffic ahead in either lane. Ambient temperatures were in the mid-to-high 90's F. A rest area stop revealed that the fracture line was entirely smooth to a fingernail trace with no evidence of a foreign object strike of any kind. Overnight in Indiana, the fracture had migrated past the rearview mirror area, spreading several inches to the left. By [XXX] morning in Oshkosh, the fracture had spread across the driver's side, rendering the vehicle undrivable. A call to BMW Road Assistance arranged a flatbed truck transport to the nearest BMW dealer in Appleton.
