The ultrasonic and camera-based proximity detection system behind the vehicle triggered the liftgate to open despite insufficient clearance. The liftgate struck the garage door, resulting in a section of paint chipping off the rear of the vehicle.  Safety Risk:  The unexpected automatic deployment of the liftgate in a confined space created a crush hazard between the liftgate and the garage door and could have struck a person standing nearby. The impact also damaged the vehicle’s rear structure; in a more severe case, this could compromise the liftgate’s ability to latch or seal properly.Reproduction / Confirmation   Status:  The issue has not yet been confirmed by a Tesla dealer or independent service center. A service request has been submitted to Tesla through the mobile app. The vehicle and the hands-free trunk system remain available for inspection upon request.  Warning Signs:  No warning lamps, chimes, or screen messages appeared before the event. The feature operated according to its designed behavior; the safety concern is that this normal behavior is unsafe in tight spaces with limited clearance.","products":[{"type":"Vehicle","productYear":"2026","productMake":"TESLA","productModel":"MODEL Y","manufacturer":"Tesla, Inc."}]}]}
