The lid does not have a stopper, dampening mechanism, or other means of holding it securely in the open position. When I lift the lid to reach for an item inside the console, it can fall closed unexpectedly and slam down on my hand.  This creates an avoidable risk of injury during ordinary use of the vehicle. Accessing a center console storage compartment is a routine activity, and the lid should not unexpectedly close on the user’s hand.  I am concerned that this design may affect other owners of the same vehicle model.
